Board Member Bio – Christopher Timura

Christopher T. Timura is a member of the International Trade Practice at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP’s Washington, D.C. office, where he works with clients to find solutions to the regulatory, legal and political issues that arise in compliance with U.S. national security, foreign policy, and anti-corruption law. For this work Mr. Timura represents clients before the U.S. Departments of State, Commerce, Justice, Treasury, and before the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS). His work has also included advising companies on evolving standards of corporate social responsibility and on how to minimize legal and political risks associated with emerging technologies and international technology transfer.

Mr. Timura received his J.D. cum laude from the University of Michigan Law School, where he served as an articles editor of the Michigan Journal of International Law and received the William H. Bishop Award for his performance in the school’s international law curriculum. He also completed his Ph.D. in Cultural Anthropology (Political and Legal Anthropology) at Michigan. Prior to his doctoral work on the globalization of conflict resolution expertise, Mr. Timura conducted field work on conservation and development issues in Guatemala. During graduate school, Mr. Timura was a Fulbright Scholar to the United Kingdom and a National Science Foundation Pre-doctoral fellow.

Mr. Timura completed his B.A. summa cum laude in Environmental Studies at Denison University where he was elected Phi Beta Kappa and received Denison’s Presidents Medal. In addition to his work with SLAJ, Mr. Timura serves on the annual meetings program committee of the American Anthropological Association as Section Editor for the Association for Political and Legal Anthropology (APLA).
